Tooth Implant

Tooth Implant

If you are missing a tooth and don’t want to settle for dentures or bridges; then, a tooth implant is something that can improve your smile. The tooth implant will help you to speak and chew by providing you a durable solution that serves as the best, long-lasting alternative to your natural teeth.

If you are intimidated by the tooth implant process since it is a complex and painful procedure. However, it is a straightforward procedure which can bring back your smile.

Pre-Surgery

Before the tooth implant surgery is carried out, your dentist will take an x-ray to find out the position of the missing teeth and mark the location where the implant will be inserted in your jaw bone.

Tooth Implant Process

Firstly, your jaw will require a Bone Graft to guarantee a satisfactory space for the implant. The bone graft is a standard technique that includes adding graft material to the missing tooth area as a grapple for your tooth implant. Once the graft heals, your dentist will move towards the next step of your tooth implant process.

The dentist will cut open the gum by making an incision. Next, a hole will be drilled into the bone where the metal implant will be placed. This implant will be the root of your artificial tooth. After this procedure, you will have to wait for a couple of months until the jawbone fuses with the dental implant to provide a solid foundation for your crown; this process is known as Osseo integration.

After Osseo integration, your dentist will use local anesthesia to append an abutment, which is a projection that attaches your prosthetic tooth to the implant. In the meantime, your dentist will place a temporary crown till a permanent crown is produced using a model of your tooth.

Post-Surgery Care

Some patients may experience minor pain, swelling, and bleeding after the tooth implant process However, it is cured through anti-inflammatory medications, antibiotics, and pain relievers.

Implants require the same care as your regular teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last for your entire life.
